1Password for Safari not responding

I have the same issue with Safari: neither Autofill (from the 1P icon in the Safari ToolBar) nor the small icon from the "1Password for Safari" extension in the username/pwd login fields work reliably for autofill. The issue came (also for me)  up with Sequoia 15.4. I am using the most recent versions of 1P (81072027, no new Beta yet), Safari (20621.1.15.11.10) and 1P for Safari (8.10.70 - no new version in the App Store yet).

There are various reports about "intermittent" failures, my impression is that there is a serious issue with 15.4. (as pointed out above).

It sounds like you're both running into a known issue where 1Password's suggestion menu will stop working, and Autofill will stop filling. Our developers have identified an issue in Safari 18.4 that is involved with this behavior and we're working with our friends at Apple to get it resolved.

For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

Hi Dave, this morning, the banking tab did not fill with "1Password for Safari". The tab was left overnight in a Safari window with a number of other tabs/websites that I use regularly. I opened the same login page in another tab, and in this new tab "1Password for Safari" did work OK. I now have ONE Safari window with 14 tabs, among them two for the same banking page, with "1Password for Safari" behaving differently in these two tabs. See screenshots. Crazy!

BTW: Autofill (using the 1P icon from the Safari Toolbar) ONLY works in the 2nd and new tab, it fails to fill in the first tab - the one with the black "Open" on the "1Password for Safari" icon.

Have any resolutions been found to fix this issue?

I am still experiencing the autofill selection not appearing. The only way I can consistently get it to function again is to quit Safari and launch again. Then it will work for a while.

One thing I can tell you is that when the issue occurs if I click on the 1PW icon in the Toolbar, the window that opens display a window with only a progress wheel in the center for several seconds while it loads the information for the site I am on. Then I get the standard window with the login information so I can copy and paste.

The same thing happens with me and haven't been able to detect a pattern. For example, Discover's website will work properly; other times it won't. And in cases where it won't work, tapping the 1P icon in the Safari toolbar results in a several seconds wait before it actually displays anything. Tapping the Autofill button once something does display does not work.

    Hi Dave,

the answer is not easy, because the problem is coming and going. An example is my online banking. The pages of the banks did always fill well before updating to 15.4 (now it's 15.4.1, no change; 1P is at 81074019 BETA and 1P for Safari is still at 8.10.70). This morning, I had to fill the login credentials on the banking page with cut&paste from the main 1P app.  I have tested reload within the same tab, that did not solve the problem.

Now (4 hrs later), it works when I test without a problem in various tabs. No idea what the difference is ... I will report here when the no-fill problem (that is, 1Password for Safari does not work as expected) shows up again.

Thank you for the reply. The next time that the issue occurs, try to open the website in a new tab, don't reload the existing tab, and see if that resolves the issue. If that doesn't work then try to completely close and re-open Safari.

I'll be able to advise further once I know whether either of those workarounds work for you.

  • Hello bwadm! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into issues with 1Password for Safari, I've split your post into a new thread since the other thread was discussing the desktop app's Universal Autofill feature.

When 1Password for Safari stops working, can you tell me if opening a new tab gets things working in the new tab? Or does restarting Safari resolve the issue (at least temporarily)? I suspect that you're running into a known issue and your answer will help me to confirm this.
