1Password is being way too helpful

Hi, All. I just now joined the community, but I've been a happy 1Password user for about 2 years. Here is my issue: Often, after I have used 1Password to get myself into a site, it will prompt me endlessly about whether I want to update a field, or even create a new 1Password record.

Example: I will use 1Password to log into PayPal Shipping--so I can purchase postage and create a shipping label. While I'm filling out the label's fields, 1Password is just all over the place, asking me at every turn (name, address, ZIP, etc.) whether I want to do something--like create a new record or change an existing one. It is relentless.

After 1Password helps with my initial task (getting into a site), I really would like it to wait for me to ask it for further help--as opposed to continually asking me if it can be of help.

How do I address this issue? I hope I've been clear enough. Thanks and best wishes.

Hi ddesjard! Welcome to the Community, and thanks for your question.

There are a few different options and autofill settings that can help with this:

If you find the suggestions that appear below fields  get in the way, one of the simplest options is just to press Esc on your keyboard. After pressing Esc the suggestions menu will stay collapsed on that page. You can click the 1Password icon in a field to reopen it at any time.

Another related option is turning Show autofill suggestions when a form field is focused off. With this setting on, you'll see autofill suggestions below fields any time you click a fillable field, such as an address field. With this setting off, the menu will be collapsed by default. You can click the icon to reopen the menu as mentioned above. If you have multiple items you can also use the autofill shortcut (often Ctrl + \) to reopen this menu. Just to note, if you only have one related item the autofill shortcut will just fill that item rather than opening the menu.

If you find that the Save Item pop ups are what's getting in the way (example below), you can turn the relevant Offer to save... setting off. As you mentioned address suggestions being an issue you could turn Offer to save contact information off.

The settings mentioned here can be found by right clicking the 1Password extension icon in your browser's toolbar, then selecting Settings > Autofill & save. It's worth mentioning that these setting are per browser. So, if you're using multiple computers, or multiple browsers on the same computer you would need to make adjustments on each.

Let me know if you have any questions, or if there's anything we can help with.

levijaya thanks for joining the conversation as well! Just tagging you here in case any of these suggestions might be helpful.
