Annoying way that Search results work

If I search for a string (eg, "Subaru"), I get a list of results with items containing that word. And the word is highlighted. I don't see a way to remove the highlight once I have my results. Even if I edit one of them when I'm done it is still highlighted. The only way to remove it is to click the "X" and close the search, which causes me to lose my results.
Thoughts?

I've passed that along to the team as well. I'm happy to hear that 1Password is a useful part of your daily workflow. 🙂

Thanks, Dave! Much appreciated, I'll try your suggestion.

I guess I should've also mentioned that not clearing the item after one clears the search field would "solve" this.

What a long way this app has come over the years, it makes my life easier every day.

Thank you for the feedback, I've passed it along to the team.

You might find the Find tool to be a useful alternative since it's a more basic tool that looks through fewer fields and doesn't highlight the term that you're looking for. You can find the Find tool here:

Please add the ability to turn off this feature. It's very aggravating when I have to make a call and reference a secure note with account information, etc, and highlights are peppered throughout.

It would be fine if I could just clear the search field to get rid of them, but that gets rid of my item, which means I have to resort to manually searching through a list to find the item if I don't want highlights.

I understand that this is a useful feature for some, but it's working against simplicity. An ability to not use the feature would be very helpful. Thanks for reading!

Thank you for the reply. Your post is very clear and I understand the feedback and suggestion. While I can't make any promises, I've passed your comments along to the team internally. 🙂

For the time being, the fastest way to stay on an item while closing the search results that are causing the highlight is to right-click on the item from the list of search results, click Copy item UUID, paste that into the search field and press enter. That specific item will re-open without the highlighting. (You might need to enable "Show debugging tools" from the Advanced settings page before you see the "Copy item UUID" option).

Highlighting the search string is very useful, but once I find it, I would like to stay on that item but turn off the highlight (it is just annoying once you are in the item). But closing the search field makes that item disappear. Maybe another option would be a way to locate recently searched items in a list, like you can find recently edited items. If this isn't clear enough let me know and I will try to explain better.

  • Hello ajahn! 👋

Thank you for reaching out. When viewing the results of a search, 1Password will highlight the search term in order to let you know where that term is found in the item in question. This was a much requested feature request that the team started receiving almost from the very release of 1Password 8 and was added to the app a couple of months ago.

To stop seeing the highlighted search term you'll need to exit the search.

I don't see a way to remove the highlight once I have my results.

I'd be happy to pass along your experience here to the team. Can you tell me more about why you'd like to be able to see search results without seeing the search term highlighted? This is currently how search term highlighting works in many apps that I'm aware of, such as Apple Notes. Is there a different functionality that you'd like to see?
