3 years agoCan't search within Secure Note
I am using 8.9.11. I, too, am frustrated by the lack of ability of search within a Secure Note, a feature that existed in previous versions of 1Password. I open "edit" of the secure note and then hit Command F. The search window opens with the vault information already entered (e.g., ==vault:Personal). If I add my search term to that string, the results I get are a list of places within the vault that contain the term. I get the same results if I delete that string and type in my search term by itself. But I cannot search within the open Secure Note for the occurrence of that term. It seems from other posts here that this feature has been removed. If so, add my vote to returning it as soon as possible. If this feature is still available, can you tell me how to accomplish it? Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback, I've let the team know that you still wish to see the ability to search a Secure Note in edit view be added to 1Password.

Hi. Add me to the list of people who checks back from time to time to see if (and how good) search within a note works. I've seen it to be working sometimes now, but not always, so I keep my fingers crossed. Thank you.

Hi yeah we need to be able to search within Secure Notes and be able to do a "find next" too so we can keep finding all instances of the search term. This is especially important due to the longtime bug with secure notes that keeps doubling up the contents over time so the notes get incredibly long and we needs to make sure we're finding the most up-to-date info. Need to be able to do this searching both when editing and when not. We're stuck using 1password 7 because you guys removed the ability to do this and it's essential to our work. The frustrating part is in 1password 8 for iOS there is a find function that you can use easily and it works great, but for some reason you guys won't add this to the Mac version. We've been dying to switch over, but unfortunately never will be able to unless an effective search functionality will be available for secure notes.

1Password 7 is no longer in development and has not received updates since 2023-07-26. 1Password 8 should have this functionality. Are you using an older build? The screenshot Dave posted appears to be 1Password 8 on a Mac. Did I misunderstand?
Edit: Dave and I talked and we think it was my misunderstanding. You're likely looking to search while editing. Sorry about that.

Ah yeah we still need to be able to search within Secure Notes. We're still using 1password 7 because this functionality was removed in version 8. 1password 8 on iOS allows for searching within notes, but the Mac version inexplicably does not. We're hoping maybe someday this functionality will be back so we can upgrade away from version 7.

The stable version of 1Password for Mac allows you to search for notes within an item and it will highlight your search term in the note:
This search highlighting doesn't currently exist when editing an item but I've let the team know that this is something that you'd like to see added to 1Password 8 in the future. Thank you for the feedback!

Still desperate for the ability to search within notes. Can do it in iOS, inexplicable why you can't in macOS. We're stuck on 1password 7 after all these years because of this one missing feature.

1P_Dave this beta you mention is promising, but does it highlight all instances of the searched text within the note? How do we move to the next instance of the searched text? 1password 7 allowed for editing the note and then searching, which was much more helpful than this way where if you have to edit the note you have to hope you can remember where to scroll to find the result.
It's crazy it's been years and we still can't get a simple way to search within a note like we could in version 7. Even crazier, the 1password 8 app for iOS does have a Find feature for long notes where you can click Read More at the bottom and then when the full note opens there's a Find option in the upper left corner. If it's possible in iOS to do this, there has to be a a way to do it in macOS. Please we need this so bad!

Hmm, that's an interesting thought Mirv. I'm not sure it would be possible to preserve the highlight in edit mode but I like the idea now that you mention it. Nice going. I'm going to file something about this with the team. From me to you, thank you. I could use this; I feel certain. Hopefully, our developers will figure out a way to make this happen.
