Looks like the fix for this problem was rolled out in version 8.11.29.1 of the Chrome extension, updated Jan. 19. I've downloaded and installed it, giving it "On all sites" permissions in "Site access," and so far, it's working smoothly.
If anyone else is seeing the same behavior described earlier, the update appears to be the fix.

I've given up and uninstalled the 1Password extension for Chrome because of this apparent new conflict with the Chrome browser for Windows 11 (so has my spouse, for the same reason, on her laptop). I hope 1Password sees these messages and addresses this issue soon. As someone who has been using 1Password for five years, I find it makes the product much less convenient to use.
