1Password will usually check for updates itself unless that's been turned off. You can double-check that the setting is correct by following these steps:
- Open and unlock 1Password.
- Click the 1Password menu (next to the  Apple menu) > Preferences...
- On the Advanced tab, make sure that Install updates automatically is turned on.
When an update is available, 1Password will automatically apply the update if it's locked. If it's unlocked, you'll see a prompt at the bottom of the main window which lets you "Restart Now" to allow the update to proceed, or you can click "Later" to dismiss the banner. 1Password would then update at the next opportunity.
