2 years agoExperiment #4 – New interface in 1Password.com’s vault view
Hi Folks!
Today we’re bringing you a beta version of a major update to the vault item view interface on 1Password.com. Our goal is to align the design with the main desktop application as well as improve our ability to introduce new features consistently across all of our platforms.
Unlike previous experimental features in labs, you are not required to manually enable this experiment, and it will not appear under the “Labs” tab in the 1Password apps. As this is an updated vault item view of our web interface, you can access it directly via this link.
At this time, the new interface provides a read-only version, which means it is limited in functionality compared to the current interface. We wanted to start testing as early as possible to identify any potential issues well in advance of a full rollout. Full functionality that aligns with the current vault item view interface will be gradually introduced over the next couple of months as we continue testing and developing.
The primary questions I'm trying to answer are:
1. Do you prefer this new interface over the old one?
2. Do you see value in us rolling out this new interface of the vault item view to all 1Password users?
3. Are you experiencing any performance issues?
4. How often do you use the vault item view in 1Password.com?
We are eager to hear what you think about this new web interface. Please share your feedback and thoughts below in the thread!
Updates
Jun 20
- Added Watchtower
- Added a link to the admin dashboard from the vaults menu
- Added "What's New" to the help menu, which links to our new release notes page
- Added vaults in quick find results
- Improved performance when loading an account with many vaults
May 16
- Added ability to share items
- Added item sharing history
- Recently Deleted now limits deleted items to the last 30 days
May 2
- Added support for viewing item history
Apr 15
- Added support for creating and editing items
- Added categories back to the sidebar
Feb 15
- Fixed part of the issue firebeyer mentioned with custom item categories. Right now all custom categories will be grouped together under "Others", and we'll be fully supporting active custom categories soon.
- Group and sort categories in the item list filter menu to match the desktop apps.
Feb 6
- Began supporting localization for the 12 languages already supported in the rest of the web app and other apps. There are some tasks remaining there.
- Maintain the last item list sort order throughout the app and across page reload.
- Show an alert popup when encountering unexpected errors, to hopefully avoid just showing a blank screen like norysang reported.
- Squashed some minor bugs.

- Do you prefer this new interface over the old one? >A: yes it looks nicer and identical to the windows desktop app (what i use normally)
- Do you see value in us rolling out this new interface of the vault view to all 1Password users? >A: if it retains all of the functionality of the previous design then sure, why not
- Are you experiencing any performance issues? Keep in mind this is a read-only version at this time. >A: no issues for me
- How often do you use the vault view in 1Password.com? >A: on occasion. it is useful for when i need to update my master password, print out my emergency kit, remove old sessions, and view the edit history of an item, but these are all things that should be included in the desktop/mobile apps by default, for the sake of convenience. it never made sense to me why we specifically need to go to a webpage to do those things, is there a security reason for it?

Boy and I'm not sure how to reply to this reply:
```quote
I think you're referring to clicking the Edit button in the browser extension, which opens the web app, is that right?I think your hack is actually the only way at the moment. It's not something I'd thought of before.
When you're trying to get into the web app, can I ask what is it you're aiming to do?
```
Yes, apologies, I'm using the browser extension in Chrome and attempting to just get into the vault without the little hack of clicking the Edit button and then canceling out of that to go into the vault.It's okay if I had to do that sporadically, but I guess I'm a heavy user and I do that multiple times a day, so it'd be easier if there was a 1-click way to open the vault itself. Totally understandable if this is an enhanced, edge case feature.
What I'm doing in the vault? None of your business! Just kidding. Could be a variety of things, like notes, not necessarily editing a thing.

Hey, guys!
I am a bit late with my contribution, but nonetheless here it is:I. Reply to the query:
1. Do you prefer this new interface over the old one?
Definitive, YES. It is better structured, more flexible from "options" point of view and supports the "dark mode" of the system.2. Do you see value in us rolling out this new interface of the vault view to all 1Password users?
YES, I fully support it3. Are you experiencing any performance issues? Keep in mind this is a read-only version at this time.
NO, I played with the online version4. How often do you use the vault view in 1Password.com?
Every dayII. Ideas for improvement:
1. For me, the menu "All items" -> "All Categories" would be more useful, if by default is ordered by categories, not by date/name/oldest/newest. I realize, that from the drop-down menu a category could be selected, but I'd go for an alphabetically-ordered approach even from the main menu.
This way, one can find an item, even though if he doesn't know which category to look for.
2. In the preview of a (e.g.) note, the first row of it to be hidden. It could contain already some "sensitive" data.
3. Ideas for "automated tags"? I thought It could be easier if the "tags" field recognizes some key-words and records directly them as "tags".For the moment, that's all from me - keep the great work!

No worries. I just didn't want to derail this discussion. It's all good. I also couldn't move your post as then things would have become disjointed. :)
We're glad to have you with us.

1P_Tommy Sorry. Yes, I'll post in the Lounge if it happens again, that way I'll recall the exact issue. My bad.

Thank you, that wasn't clear but does explain why I couldn't find what I needed. The new interface is a bit too minimal for me, and I do like color, but I applaud the move away from a white background in the new test design.

In the left-hand alley I would like an option to show recently accessed logins, using header Recent.
