Extension doesn't seem to load until it's clicked on in Edge

I noticed that CMD+\ stopped working in Edge for the last few months. What I've found is that I need to click on the 1Password extension icon in Edge for it to load, then I can use the autofill shortcut.

Is it by design that the extension doesn't load in the background properly?

Extension Version: 8.10.56.28
OS Version: 15.2 (24C101)

    I'm sorry that the autofill shortcut isn't working properly in Microsoft Edge, that certainly doesn't sound right. Can you reproduce the issue one more time and then I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from 1Password in your browser:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (browser extension)

    Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:
