How do I create Passkeys?

Everybody talks about but I can't do anything about it. Does anybody actually know how to create passkeys? reliably I have created 1 or 2 accidentally but I don't know what I did to make it happen. I cannot anything understandable on the Apple boards, I'm hoping to get better results here

Some of them don’t automatically prompt to create them; you have to go into your account/profile settings to find the place to add a passkey. Aside from that though, most of them do it that way.

You can’t just “create one.” You have to be on a site that is actively asking for one at the time, and 1Password will detect that and ask to create/update your login for that site with the passkey.

That's all??? Are there sites that don't behave that way?

        Yes. Yes.

Take a look at 1Password's Passkeys.directory for a list of websites which support passkyeys. Be warned that a few of them will not work properly with the 1Password browser extension (yet).
Note that how websites use the passkey may differ. The good ones will enable you to use the passkey to identify and authorise your access, i.e. log you in, with a click. The other treat it as a second factor which you provide after your username and password.
