How to restore functionality of CMD-\ floating window?

1P_Rob Correct. One login with the subdomain matching the URL isn't the topmost item. Everything was set up properly. I've since reverted back to 1Password 7.

Hey, hazmat. Sorry for the delayed response here. Are you saying the suggestions don't even match the page that is active in your browser? That shouldn't be the case if Universal Autofill is turned on and has Accessibility access. Is this still happening for you?

In the past I'd type CMD-\ and it would offer me a floating window where I must continue to refine by searching and viewing a list of proffered items. Now I get a mini window with just titles.

I realized today I could search in the mini-drop-down menu. Just have to type in the field. That never occurred to me. Derp!

Peter, thanks for this. Disabling the autofill down-down menu was what I was looking to do. Much better now. But, to tag on to this discussion, I'm finding the suggested list from ⌘\ not always helpful. Where on some logins the "classic" extension would simply fill it in, now it's trying to suggest anything related, and the topmost suggestion isn't even the most relevant. Is there a way to customize that behavior?

Seriously, though - my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. We've experienced our to-be-expected rush surrounding the 1Password for Mac launch, and as a result it's sometimes taking us a little longer to reply. But we are still here!

It's so good to hear that you're enjoying Universal Autofill. We're really excited about this too. This is a feature that's a part of Quick Access, which is the floating window you've mentioned.

Regarding some of your previous observations, it sounds like you have some power-user use cases, so I'll share a bit here about how we tend to think of the various aspects of 1Password, as well as discuss some of the specifics you've mentioned. 👍

First, there's three major app interfaces you can call upon to interact with your 1Password data:

1. 1Password in your browser, also known as the 1Password browser extension. This is what gives 1Password the power to auto-fill logins into the browser for you when you click on a username or password field. This also lets you save logins that you create directly from the browser, without having to open up the 1Password desktop app.

2. 1Password for [your platform], also known as the 1Password desktop apps. These are the full-featured app for each platform, and they're great for organizing items, bumping up your Watchtower score, and more heavy-duty tasks generally. Important app settings and the ability to export are also found here. I should also mention that if an item within 1Password for Mac has a URL associated with it, you can use the Open and Fill feature, which will pop open a new browser tab and fill your sign-in details where they need to go.

3. Quick Access - the spiritual successor to 1Password mini, but (in our opinion) dramatically improved. The idea with Quick Access is that it provides a way for you to quickly grab credentials at a glance, and thanks to Universal Autofill you can now pop those sign-in details into apps or even the browser itself.

On To the Specifics

Not having a means to quickly edit a record from the resulting floating window of a Cmd-\ is a bummer too.

We've been getting some feedback from other folks in the forum that they'd like to be able to do this as well. We have opened a feature request with our development team about it, and I have just added your vote to the tally. Thanks for the suggestion!

Although Quick Access does now overlap somewhat with the abilities of 1Password in your browser (if you're on a Mac), they aren't totally identical. However, you can disable 1Password in your browser's autofill behavior, like so:

• Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar, then choose Settings
• Scroll down to the Autofill section and disable Offer to fill and save passwords, as well as show autofill menu on field focus

And upon exiting and restarting your browser, you should find that it no longer offers to fill passwords and other similar forms for you.

I'd like to tag in my teammate Jack_P_1P''s explanation of what the shortcuts do, too, in case this is helpful:

⌘+\ and ⌘+Shift+Space are similar, but do slightly different things. ⌘+\ is your AutoFill shortcut, where if there's only one matching Login item for the app or website you have focused, 1Password will fill it automatically. Quick Access will show suggested items based on the focused app or website, but won't fill automatically, so you can search for any item you'd like to find.

To wrap up: I hope that the combination of 1Password in your browser, 1Password for Mac, and Quick Access will provide the overlapping capabilities you need to get things done naturally and fluidly - that's certainly our design goal. And I'll be interested to learn whether this sparks some inspiration for you on how best to put these to use for your team!

Ok. You can remove that 1p form drop down menu by just not having a browser extension installed in any browser and use Universal Autofill?! Nice!

I think it'd be nice to have a toggle for it regardless as I'm unsure what other features I might be missing by removing the browser plug-ins.

Seems like I posted in a weird time. I was trying the beta and around that same time a release build with Universal Autofill came out unbeknownst to me. I will fiddle with that feature as it seems to do some of the things I described as not available above.

With the advent of Universal Autofill, is there a way to prevent the now redundant and in-the-way mini from field drop-down menu?

Cmd-Shift-Space seems to be sort of on the right track, but it seems disassociated from the page I'm on in the browser.

I can't hit enter on a found record and fill the form on the page I'm on, which I need to do often. I can't have 1p open a new window in my default browser either. I use multiple browsers and lots of Chrome profiles to represent different clients/accounts/projects.

If I use Cmd-Shift-Space, I can search for the correct record, but the only way to use a found record it is to then copy/paste (or drag) each item (login/pass/otp) each time I need to log into these sites. Hmmm

With v7, I'd do a Cmd-\, get a list of appropriate, similar (but not unique enough for 1p to guess accurately) records, refine it by doing a secondary search in the floating Cmd-\ window, then double-click the record I needed to fill a form on the page I'm on.

This doesn't seem possible at this juncture. Hoping some of this can be restored!

Experimenting further - the little in-form-field 1p icon/drop-down menu is no good for some of our team's use cases. I am regularly getting literally 50+ items in the drop down menu. Cmd-\ just pops that menu out, which isn't at all what it used to do.

Not having a means to quickly edit a record from the resulting floating window of a Cmd-\ is a bummer too. I often would edit form fields to update/add to them on the fly and/or refine record names and other fields as I went to improve our teams record list to make their lives easier. Now I'd have to remember to go back and do this manually later on in the main app (not gonna happen).
