3 years agoIntra-string search doesn't work in 1Password8
One of my favorite 1Password 7 tricks is to quickly search for logins by typing substrings that appear in the middle of the item name.
For example, if I have the following items in my vault:
Sonic RushSonic DrivethroughSonic Speed
... and I know that I need the login for Sonic Drivethrough, I will type c D in 1Password search since I know that only one item in my vault has the unique substring c D.
Typing c D is much faster than typing Sonic D (less than half the character count).
This kind of intra-string search works in 1Password 7 and in the 1Password Chrome plugin, but it doesn't work in 1Password 8. To get results to show up I have to start from the beginning of the item name, which is a lot slower when you have lots of items with shared prefixes.
I'm not sure whether to call this a feature request or a regression bug, but I miss intra-string search capability dearly. It would be especially useful in the new Universal Autofill pane, since that path is already otherwise optimized to minimize keypresses.

(and missing app:// linking support)
You can link Login items to apps in 1Password 8, but it no longer uses app:// links. To link a Login item to an app:
- Open Quick Access with the app in question open
- Search for the item you want to associate
- Click the vertical … menu
- Select ‘Autofill’
- Select ‘Fill & Update Login’
In the future that login item will be suggested (instead of having to search) when that app is open. I hope that helps!

For the record, I just rolled back to v7 because of this (and missing app:// linking support)

I can't speak to the intricacies involved here with regard to searching, but I can tell you the team would like to bestow some much needed love on this feature. I know it would entirely be welcome from my perspective as a fellow user.

Thanks for the followup PeterG. I'm curious to the technical issues related to Unicode support, since the 1Password extension can correctly search information in the same vaults that 1Password 8 can't.

why is this all going to vote instead of being completed before the unusable v8 version was hyped online?

Also I have added votes on behalf of everyone here who wasn't previously tallied. 👍

Hi folks! We appreciate your feedback here, and while I don't have anything new to share at the moment, this is something we're looking at internally. Thank you again for letting us know that this is a priority for you. 🙏

Adding to this concern. Now that I'm informed on this issue, I'm holding off on upgrading to 1P8. Substring search is more important to me than any of the anticipated benefits of moving to the new version.

That's a serious regression, which IMHO deserves mentioning in the release notes under "known issues" or similar. I was searching for "found" to find "Linuxfoundation" (since the "Linux" string occurs a lot in my vault), and found nothing.
