Looking for advanced password search function after getting an alert

Hello, I am using an identity monitoring service that came with one of the digital banking service for free. There was an alert yesterday that said my information was on the dark web suggesting to change the password that ends with "888". I think a dozen of my passwords are ending with 888. Is there any way to find out which accounts are using such password? Thank you in advance!

The alert:
"We found information on the dark web that may belong to you. Take a closer look and get steps to help protect your identity. It looks like your password was exposed, so we're just partially showing it here for security reasons. To protect your information, you should change your password on the accounts where it's being used."

You can search for "888" in the 1Password app. Passwords are included in search.

It's best practice and strongly recommended to have a different password for every single login you have, so this is probably the the moment you should revise every entry with that password and change it to a unique generated password. 1Password has a very nice integrated password generator for secure passwords.

Having the password of multiple entries ending with "888" is an indication you either have the same password for all these entries, or very similar passwords that were not created by a password generator but written by you. The former is "one does do this", the latter is "these are weak passwords", so change every one of these.

  • Hello Watashi,

Thanks as always Tertius for the assistance here.

They are correct, it is best practice to use strong, unique passwords for each of your account items. 1Password is very helpful with strengthening your passwords through either the browser extension or the 1Password apps. Take a look at our guide below to:
    * Use the password generator to change and strengthen your passwords

1Password also includes Watchtower to help you identify items that need attention:
    * Use Watchtower to find account details you need to change

If you have any questions about these features or any other aspects of 1Password, please let us know and we'll be happy to assist you further!

Tertius3 - Thank you for your assistance!! Indeed, I was able to successfully find all the accounts that have password ending in "888".

I totally agree with you that I was not following the best practice. I am in the process of updating the passwords for each account with the secure ones generated by 1Password.

Really appreciate your taking time to post the answer.
