Is there any specific reason that 1password is not and will not be supporting this feature?

6 months agoWelcome to the community! 1Password doesn't currently support the macOS filling feature because the team is focused on supporting the existing two filling methods (mentioned in my post above).
That being said, I can definitely file a feature request on your behalf as well to have the team look into support macOS AutoFill in the future. Can you tell me a little more about where the existing methods (1Password in the browser and Universal Autofill) fall short for your needs?

I didn’t bother about the macOS AutoFill feature until it was turned on by the company I work for on my BYOD Mac as company passkeys are now stored in Microsoft Company Portal. I wish I could see 1Password too to fill in passwords automatically like entering credentials to Parallels Desktop for a fully integrated experience and not to have to think that 1Password works also in the background and I have to do CMD+\.

Hi fabian,
To make sure I understand correctly so that I can submit the feedback, you are hoping that 1Password can automatically detect what app you are in and fill in your details for you without the need to press Command-\ on your keyboard? Apologies if I've misunderstood.
Looking forward to your reply!

Both of the two existing methods won't work when desktop applications need a passkey auth.

Yes, this seems odd to me because the functionality that doesn't exist on macOS 15 (Sequoia) exists on iOS 18.
Next, I agree with gswhite that this causes havoc on macOS because it can only autofill passkeys from the Passwords app when authenticating with Amazon. Furthermore, this Autofill & Passwords integration isn't just for website auth but can also be used for auth on native applications.
If I click the blue button, it will take me to the System Settings' Autofill & Passwords screen on macOS 15 Sequoia.
In short, this needs to get resolved for macOS to be functionally aligned with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.

Thank you for the feedback! iOS/iPadOS is more locked down than macOS is and iOS AutoFill is usually the only filling method available in apps/browses (aside from Safari which does support extension on iPhone/iPad). macOS, on the other hand, is a full-featured desktop operating system where we're able to release a browser extension for all major browsers as well as support Universal Autofill to fill into other apps.
That being said, I'll certainly pass your suggestions along to the team internally.
it can only autofill passkeys from the Passwords app when authenticating with Amazon.
That doesn't sound right. I recommend that you turn off "AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys" in macOS settings and then also make sure that the built-in password manager is turned off in all of your browsers:
Let me know if you still see the issue on Amazon after you try these steps.-Dave

Whole "1Password as an app is not showing in Settings under Autofill and Passwords" seems odd.
It's not appearing. If it's not going to appear, please update the documentation that you have published that suggests it's use.
I purchased a supported product that was device agnostic - about 15 years ago.
I continue to pay but I'm starting to question it now.
