Hello everyone,
I'm happy to share that, with the latest update to the stable version of 1Password (8.10.78), our team has added a setting to turn off the prefilling of usernames when creating new items in the app:
You can find instructions on how to update here: How to keep 1Password up to date
Thanks again for all of the feedback and for always helping us make 1Password more useful for your needs and your workflows.

7 months agoThanks for reaching out. You're seeing the new item creation flow, you can read more about it on our blog under "Better item creation and navigation": 1Password product enhancements [Winter edition]: Mobile improvements, better item creation, and even more security features
When you create a new Login item in the apps, 1Password will now automatically fill your email address in the username field and generate a password so that you don't have to do those steps yourself. If you'd like to use another email address or username then you can click into the username field and change the username to a different one.

I see, I appreciate the response! I guess the new feature is a bit problematic though because what pre-populated in the username field is a username that is specific to only one of my accounts. So I’d never use that username for any new account I create. Maybe a drop down menu of most frequently used usernames could be a better implementation of that feature. But yea I can see how it might me useful if people use the same username in all of their accounts

Thank you for the feedback! Can you tell me a little more about which email addresses or usernames you do use? Do you use Fastmail masked email aliases? Or some other email alias feature so that every account uses a different email address?

I can answer for my use case. I give each account a unique username, password, and email address. Personally, I use Fastmail's subdomain email address feature to create unique email addresses for each account.
I started doing this over a year ago when one of my accounts was compromised, and I detected failed login attempts using the email address of the compromised account. Since then, I don't share anything across accounts that I don't absolutely have to.
Phone numbers are a challenge since I cannot create a unique working phone number for each account, but I would if I could! I can use tools like Google Voice to hide my "real" phone number from accounts that don't need it, however.
I hope that this information helped you.
Also, is there way to disable the pre-population of passwords on new login items?
