OSX App + Firefoxx extension = Confused

If there's more than one result, using Universal Autofill will show the search box, and then the possible matches below. Pressing ⌘+. opens 1Password in your browser, not Quick Access / Universal Autofill.

It's really confusing - sometimes I get a Search Box at the top of the list and other times I just get a list of possible matches.

1Password in your browser allows you to generate new items (like saving a new Login) easily. It works in tandem with Universal Autofill (which you can access by pressing ⌘+). Using Universal Autofill will offer suggestions for the currently active app, or if you're in a browser, it will talk with 1Password in the browser to determine which sites to suggest and fill in there.

While it's definitely possible to just use Universal Autofill, for the best experience, we'd recommend using both 1Password in your browser and the 1Password desktop app.

Yes, issues and inconsistencies ... on some web pages when I enter ⌘+\ I get the 1Password Search box with a list of 2 possibilities underneath. Why? I expect to see just the two logins which I can pick from.

On the same page if I press ⌘+. I get the browser 1P option showing the logins and a 3rd option, my name.

Great question! While we don't have a specific document on this, generally speaking you can use ⌘+\ (the default autofill shortcut configured in 1Password for Mac) to fill whether you're in an app or a browser. If you have a browser open, opening the 1Password pop-up will also let you autofill an item.
