Hi, the current behaviour of deleting item history when moving items is neither expected nor acceptable in an enterprise use case. Here is why:
- The items password field history is still preserved when moving vaults so the argument "don't accidentally share information that you weren't intending" does not hold.
- It silently deletes item history which breaks auditability and hinders the ability to restore previous version.
- It cannot be undone or reverted.
- 1Password does not warn about data loss when moving items.
- It conflicts with 1Passwords officially recommended enterprise workflow to create and move items to multiple vaults as items currently cannot be stored in multiple vaults.
- It is not documented anywhere in the 1Password support pages as far as we can tell:

This issue has a real impact on our 1Password usage and we would like to know if there is any commitment for it to be fixed or improved since this issue was created 2023.

Hi 1P_Dave, thanks for your reply! I think this thread (and No item history in moved items | 1Password Community ) is still relevant for others that might be searching for info about this issue/feature request.
Regarding the support ticket, I am happy to continue the conversionation there, but the last email I got was on Sunday 2026-03-15 stating that it would be closed without having addressed any of the points of concern. I replied on Monday 2026-03-16 and currently still waiting on a reply :)- 1P_Dave2 months ago

We still hope that there will be an update soon to allow item history to be preserved when moving vaults as the support team could not answer on that topic.
