Question about Family Organizer Seats, Enforcing 2FA & Best Practices
Hi folks,
I have a 1Password Family plan and I'd like to improve my security posture by having a separate, dedicated Family Organiser account for administrative tasks, and using a less-privileged account for my daily activities.
My challenge is that my family plan is currently full, and my day-to-day account is also my only Family Organizer.
Is it possible to have a dedicated admin-only account for tasks like account recovery that does not consume one of the paid seats on a family plan? If not, could you recommend an alternative best practice or workflow for this situation when no seats are available? Also, am I able to enforce 2FA on all logins within a family plan?
Thanks for your guidance!

Hey farhie, thanks for writing in!
Is it possible to have a dedicated admin-only account for tasks like account recovery that does not consume one of the paid seats on a family plan?
Short answer here is no. No matter how you choose to use each account, they'll all count towards the total member count.
I will note that you can add family accounts to a 1Password Families membership beyond the included 5 for an additional recurring fee. This is possible if your account is direct billed with us, but not through in-app purchases in the mobile app stores.
If not, could you recommend an alternative best practice or workflow for this situation when no seats are available?
You're certainly welcome to use and manage 1Password how you best see fit, but a separate admin account for 1Password Families is not something we broadly recommend as a matter of course.
As with any account, for a Family Organizer we recommend choosing a strong unique account password to help keep your account secure. You can also enable 2FA for your account, and check out our suggestions for securing your account.
Also, am I able to enforce 2FA on all logins within a family plan?
Are you referring to requiring account 2FA for all members? If so, this is not available with 1Password Families.
Let us know if there's anything we can help with, and thanks again!
