Request: Turn off username guessing in the apps [RESOLVED]
When I go to create a new login, the user name is prefilled with an email address I haven’t used in years. This shouldn’t have any email address, especially when I use Fastmail’s masked emails. I hop...

Hello everyone,
I'm happy to share that, with the latest update to the stable version of 1Password (8.10.78), our team has added a setting to turn off the prefilling of usernames when creating new items in the app:
You can find instructions on how to update here: How to keep 1Password up to date
Thanks again for all of the feedback and for always helping us make 1Password more useful for your needs and your workflows.

1 year agoThe problem is still not solved, it is very frustrating, is anyone even looking into this? Each time 1P sets the default email address and generates a password

They have until about October - November for me. They said they are doing something, but no time line. I find it funny this thread is growing and we are still waiting. Someone on Reddit said they left 1Password because of this and my mom and in-laws went to Bitwarden…. So far they lost 3 people.

Work is still ongoing. Because it has not arrived yet does not mean it will not arrive. There is a workaround for anyone looking to use it. I use this myself. To be clear, to my knowledge this is not the intended resolution by the team but it works for my needs. It may work for you too.
- My apologies if the images are overly large I'm trying a new feature and this is the first post. I need to check if adjustments are needed on my end.
1. Create a new identity. If the one you currently use does not have the email address you prefer or change the current one to use the preferred address.
2. In the profile section of 1Password desktop application set the identity in use to the one you created or an existing one.
3. Create a new login. That login will pull the email address suggested from that identity item.
4. You may be like me in that you never really used the identity section before.
Previously, I left mine blank because I needed to fill details for my teens and in-laws. I switched to this to prevent the issue you're describing. Works a treat and all I needed to do was adjust one of my other habits.
These may help illustrate the steps.

It's really not only about the address that is being used. It's that the username is pre-filled at all. That's really just a plain stupid thing to do.

I'm also thinking about transferring my account to Proton Pass, I'm just waiting for it to be possible to add attachments because it's important to me, and on reddit they wrote that it should be ready this week. It's very strange that 1P didn't do anything to solve this problem.
