Safari extension not working reliably

Every day the safari plug in fails to work until I restart Safari. Any idea why?
I'm talking about autofill in login boxes.
When I click on the 1p icon in the menu bar it spins for a while, then shows the correct item, but the autofill button does nothing. Then when I restart safari, the autofill suggestion is now there, but invariably there will be an error the first time I submit until I reload the page. The last time this happened was when attempting to login here to post this.

This is new behavior since the last set of updates.

Are you aware of any issues?

MacOS 15.4
Safari Version 18.4 (20621.1.15.11.10
1Password for Safari 8.10.70.27
1Password for Mac 8.10.50 (81050025)

  • Hello dmkahn, JerrySG, theseal, ahenshaw! 👋

I'm sorry that AutoFill stops responding in Safari on your Mac. This is an issue that the team and I have been able to reproduce and an internal issue is currently open to investigate this further. The team has identified an issue in Safari 18.4, that also exists in Safari 18.5, that is contributing to the issue and have filed feedback with Apple to get this fixed.

For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

    MacOS settings:

    Autofill passwords and passkeys: On
    Autofill from Passwords: Off
Verification Codes: Delete after use: On (I also noticed it stopped picking up verification codes from mail messages)
Setup Codes in: Passwords (the only choice)
