Searching using Tags

Hi, sorry, but I'm a Newbie and the Help pages don't seem to address this need: How do you ask it to find and list only those items that have a combination of Tags (not just a single tag, for which I can just click on a Tag in the side panel)? It doesn't even seem to search the TAGS field! (in the Windows app) Thanks!

In the 1Password on macOS app, you can just search for all the tags you want, without needing to add =tag:TAG1 =tag:TAG2 like 1P_Dave suggested.  Simply type the tags you want with a space between them.

I like to tag my items with things like the Credit Card or address used on the account (in addition to adding the address to the item).  So any travel-related item that uses my Apple Credit card will have at least two tags on it: travel and cc_apple.

Sometimes online I will use a mispelling of my name while other accounts I use my real spelling -- I tag these as well.  When I want to search for items containing both, I just type out the tags and hit enter, then those items containing all the tags are listed (though sometimes I also get "Other Suggestions" sometimes containing one or even neither tag.

Thanks for the added suggestion! The only caveat I would note is that if you don't use the search filter that I mentioned here, then the search will also pull up items that contain those two keywords in non-tag places like the title, username, and notes.

The search filter ensures that you only get results based on tags.

Good point 1P_Dave .  I mostly have unique/specific tags that would not otherwise be used in any other field, but some like "travel" could cause some inaccurate results.  I didn't think of that.

  • Hello rajeevba! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! If you're using the desktop app you can use a search filter to show items that have multiple tags:

You can add multiple search filters. So if you'd like to see items that are tagged with both TAG1 and TAG2 you should search: =tag:TAG1 =tag:TAG2

    I hope that helps.

Great, Thank you Dave for this reply and your other one earlier.

I really think you guys need to do a MUCH better (complete) job of documentation and communication. All of this should be in your Help Notes on these topics. You could begin by searching through all the questions that people ask and then updating all your Help Notes with all these answers!

Thank you for the feedback! I've shared your suggestion with our documentation team internally.
