Accidentally deleted a passkey

Hello all,  I sent this to 1pw support (ticket ID 550110) but I thought of also posting this here.

I accidentally deleted my passkey for my Google account (I know dumb move !!) I'm still logged in my account on my phone but not on the computer.  Seems like every method to try and log in (on the computer) or change any setting on the phone will require the passkey.  Some methods like sending a push to my phone and I pick a number that's on the computer screen gets me to a message that I'm logged on another device. The only device I'm logged into is my phone so ????

Also I tried to recover the previous logon info in 1password, showed there was a passkey, but it still didn't work.  To add, one of the screens I saw a message that I will get a login link in 24 or 48 hours.  I'm afraid I will still need the passkey, I hope not but time will tell.

Very frustrating.

  • Dave,   Sorry for the delay.  I had 2FA enabled along with advanced protection.  When the passkey was deleted it locked me out of everything but I was able to remain logged in, but that was it. I wasn't getting a passkey popup from 1PW as normal.   After a few days Google came back with a message that showed they disabled 2FA, once that happened I was able to recover everything with the link in the message.  I recreated a new passkey, 2FA and advanced protection and now all is good.  Passkey is back and I have full access to my account.   Lesson learned !!

  • Hello AerospaceEd! đź‘‹

I'm sorry that you accidentally deleted a passkey for your Google account. You can restore a deleted item using 1Password on your phone by following these steps:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password on your phone.
    2. Select Items, then scroll down and tap Recently Deleted.
    3. Select the item you want, then tap and choose Restore Item. You can view or restore an item from Recently Deleted for 30 days after the item was deleted.

If the passkey was deleted from an active item then you can restore a previous version of that item:
View and restore previous versions of items

    I hope that helps!

    -Dave

Dave,  I did try that and it didn't work.  I guess I'll have to wait a few days to see what the Google account recovery link does for me.

      Thanks

Thanks for the reply. May I ask: what specifically didn't work? Do you now see your passkey in 1Password? It should look something like this:

If you see your passkey in 1Password, what happens when you try to sign in using your passkey? Do you see a specific error message from 1Password or from your browser?
