Tagging Query
Hi
Looking back I can see that this issue has been discussed before but I wanted to just double-check my understanding.
Is it correct that I cannot create a Tag for selected items but that I have to create the Tag first then drag my selection onto it?
Furthermore, if I Archive all of the items for a Tag the Tag disappears from the current Tag list meaning that before I can add and then possibly Archive other items to the same tag I have to remember to recreate the same Tag in advance before selecting more items.
This is all OK if you remember and follow the sequence but I've been tidying and found that because I was Archiving as I went I was forced to recreate the same Tag multiple times.
Is this the only way it works or have I missed something?
Thank you for your help.
Regards

Hello iwaddo! 👋
Thanks for the questions! You're correct on both counts:
- You'll need to create a tag first and then you can drag multiple items to that tag in the sidebar to add the tag to those items.
- In the sidebar, you'll only see tags that are tagged to active items (not archived) in the current account or collection that you're viewing.
before I can add and then possibly Archive other items to the same tag I have to remember to recreate the same Tag in advance before selecting more items
I'd love to learn more about this use case, why are you tagging items before archiving them? Tags aren't really used in the Archive so I'd like to learn more about how you use them.

Hi, I had a lot of entries related to managing my late father-in-laws estate. I could probably have deleted the entries but decided to archive them just in case. Before archiving them it seemed to make sense to tag them. I had managed without the tag for several years by adding his name in brackets to the end of the title so really there was no need to tag them as I could easily find them. It just seemed to be a good idea at the time.
I find that I have to add names in brackets to the end of a lot entries so they can be easily and quickly distinguishable. For example, we both have logins for the same bank so as to not confuse them they are titled
- BankName (MyName)
- BankName (HerName)
Is there a better way?
Thank you for your support.

My condolences to you and your family. Thank you for sharing details about your workflow.
Tags aren't as useful for archived items since archived items don't show up when you click on the tag in the sidebar nor can you search for a specific tag in the archive. A different option may be to create a dedicated vault for those items and then you can use collections to choose when you'd like to view that vault in the 1Password app:
When viewing a collection that includes the vault that contains the items in question, you would even see the tags for those items in the sidebar.I hope that helps.
