TouchID not working + frequent password prompts in Safari extension

Hi 1Password,

I just installed 1Password on a new Mac, and I'm finding that I have to type my password to unlock the Safari extension multiple times per day (it doesn't even offer TouchID), and TouchID is not working to unlock the main 1Password app.

My 1Password settings are set to use TouchID and only prompt for the password every 2 weeks, yet I have to type the password multiple times / day for Safari.

It seems to me like the root issue is 1Password not working with Touch ID, and the Safari extension requiring a password may be a symptom of that?

Screenshots:

^ When unlocking 1Password I am prompted for TouchID -- when I use it, I consistently get this error and have to type my 1Password password. (TouchID works fine for all other Mac services)

^ The Safari extension consistently prompts me to enter my password. It stays unlocked for a bit of time across sites, but re-locks itself multiple times per day and requires the password to unlock.

^ TouchID is enabled, and should only require the password once every 2 weeks

Thanks for the help!

  • Hello B9039! 👋

I'm sorry that you're unable to unlock 1Password using Touch ID. As a first step, try updating to 8.10.38 to see if there's an improvement: How to keep 1Password up to date

If you still see the issue after updating then, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

Hi Dave -- thanks for your help. I don't know if I had a typo originally, or if 1Password just updated in the background today, but when I went back to update it said I was on 8.10.38 (the latest), and the issue is still happening (including after a restart).

I've sent in the diagnostics, and the support ID number is PCL-68638-291. Thanks!
