Unlocking 1Password suddenly required many times a day

I use 1Password for Mac 8.12.21 on a Mac with macOS 15.7.7. I switched to 1Password 8 a few months ago from 1Password 6. My main browser is Firefox, and I quit and restart it many times a day. Whenever I start it again, I also have to log in again to websites, such as a Google account, because I have set Firefox to delete all cookies and other data each time I quit. Having to log in to many websites repeatedly every day is not a problem because that's what I use 1Password for. This is how I want it – starting again and again with a "fresh" browser.

Until a couple of days ago, 1Password 8 worked like 1Password 6 did for many years and 1Password 8 did for the last few months: After starting the computer in the morning, I have to unlock 1Password the first time I use it. After that, I don't have to unlock it again when logging in to websites (even after quitting and restarting Firefox), unless I don't use the computer for several hours.

However, for the past couple of days, I have been repeatedly asked to unlock 1Password 8, even though I have been working on my computer the whole time. Sometimes I have to unlock 1Password 8 again after five minutes; other times, after thirty minutes. There is no pattern that I have recognized so far.

Please take a look at the attached screenshots of my 1Password 8 security settings. Then, please let me hopefully know what is not working correctly and how to get it to work as it did before.

As a precaution, note that I don't want to unlock with Touch ID, nor do I want 1Password to unlock with the computer. I want to unlock 1Password 8 once in the morning and not have to do it again unless I'm away from the computer for several hours. Also, I would like to reiterate that 1Password 8 was functioning properly until just a couple of days ago.

Thank you.

  • Hi KR thanks for reaching out!

I'm sorry that you keep having to unlock 1Password in your Firefox browser.

Based on what you described, it sounds like the desktop app and browser extension are having trouble communicating with each other. Can you try the following steps to reset the connection between them?

    1. Open Firefox.
    2. Right-click the 1Password icon in Firefox's toolbar and select 'Settings'.
    3. Under General, turn off the Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app option.
    4. Close Firefox completely by right-clicking its icon in the macOS Dock and selecting Quit.
    5. Open the 1Password desktop app, left-click 1Password in the top left corner and select Settings.
    6. Under the General section ensure Keep 1Password in the menu bar is checked.
    7. Under the Browser section ensure Connect with 1Password in the browser is checked.
    8. Right-click the 1Password app icon in the macOS menu bar (top right corner near the clock) and select Quit.
    9. Re-open the 1Password app and unlock it.
    10. Open Firefox once again, sign into 1Password as before, and turn on Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app.
    11. Test using 1Password again.

If those steps don't help, I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from the 1Password desktop app as well as a console log from the browser extension

    - Save a console log for 1Password in your browser
