What type of backup do you use?

When using 1Password 8, there is no need to backup your vault since your data is already backed up to your 1Password account in the cloud. If you accidentally delete an item you can restore it from your 1Password account on 1Password.com: View and restore previous versions of items
No problem I said: just search the "Recently deleted" folder... but to my astonishment the item wasn't there to be found, nor in the Archive. So 1Password had a hiccup and lost 1 item that couldn't be found anywhere.
There are two circumstances where a deleted item won't appear in Recently Deleted:
- If you delete and item from your vault and then Destroy permanently the same item from Recently Deleted.
- If 30 days have passed since you deleted an item, you will no longer be able to view or restore a deleted item from Recently Deleted.
If you don't see a deleted item in Recently Deleted, and neither of these conditions apply, then we'll need to dig deeper to see what might have happened. 1Password will never delete or permanently destroy items without your explicit action. Try the following:
- Open and unlock the 1Password desktop app.
- Make sure that your entire account, or All Accounts if you're using multiple accounts, are selected from the sidebar in the upper left corner of the app.
- Click All Items in the sidebar.
- Click the sort button and choose: Date Created and Oldest First.
- The account starter item should be at the top of the list. If it isn't then, using the same sidebar settings selected, check the Archive and Recently Deleted sections again.
If you still don't see the item then when was the last time that you actually saw the starter item? And are you using a 1Password Families membership? Or a different membership?

For the "1Password Account" deleted item: I swear I've done all the steps you mentioned above.: I checked everything, including searching on my.1password.com. I'm using this item at least once a week because I need my master password to export (backup) my family account on an encrypted SD card, so it means less then 30 days ago. I'm using Families membership and I'm the admin. I don't have an other membership. That item was gone and couldn't be found anywhere, sorry to report that.
Now about the backup, I don't believe any system is fool proof (although I have the highest trust in your app). What happened with that deleted item made me more conscious about the need to keep doing what I'm doing (SD card exports)... So this is what AI reported: "Unfortunately, a permanently deleted 1Password vault cannot be restored from your account". Is it true? If so, how can we protect ourselves against human error and restore the vault, or at least the items in it.

Thanks for the reply. If you try to delete a vault then 1Password will display a prominent warning that asks for your confirmation:
This additional confirmation step helps to prevent human error and makes it clear that deleting a vault is a permanent action. I'm sorry that you still haven't found the missing item. I haven't seen other reports of this so we'll need to dig deeper to see what's happened here.
