Why did you change the way the search works?
When I search for the string '@domain.com', 1Password 8 for macOS shows me dozens of entries that have the string 'domain' in it. Why???

dont hold your breath. most people had to downgrade to v7 as v8 wont be usable any time soon. there wasnt even a tiny update in last weeks since hundreds of customers complained here.
