Thumbnails don't load in Windows "Open" dialog when choosing an icon
Hi team, writing in about an issue we've noticed at work that's driving us nuts. So far, we haven't found any solution and seem to have narrowed it down to 1Password; the only application that seems to have this problem. Even the 1Password web app (when using Edge) doesn't have this problem--it's just the local Windows app.
1Password for Windows 8.11.16 (81116035)
When we're selecting an icon for a vault item, the window that it opens doesn't load thumbnails correctly. However, if you browse to the same location using File Explorer, or via any other application's file picker window, the thumbnails load without issue. Again, this issue seems to be limited to 1Password; we haven't been able to reproduce it with file pickers from any other applications.
To reproduce:
- Select an item in the vault.
- Click "Edit"
- Click on the icon dropdown > Choose new icon
Result: The file picker window appears but the thumbnails in that window never load. Here's an example with a folder of random pictures:
Expectation: The thumbnails in the file picker render correctly, and the contents should look a bit like this (so many nice thumbnails!) (this is the file picker from a different program, called Unigram, but Edge's Open dialog looks the same):

Hi Dunecat! Thanks for writing in.
From a quick test with 1Password for Windows I wasn't able to reproduce this. I'd like to ask a few questions about the issue:
- Could I ask what the file types are?
- If you adjust "view" after opening the file explorer from 1Password do the thumbnails pop in ( switching between list, large icons, medium icons etc for example)?
- It sounds like it's not just you seeing this issue. Has it impacted other people on your team as well?
- Do you see any change after fully quitting and restarting 1Password for Windows? Or after restarting your PC?
Thanks again!

While troubleshooting this I actually found a way to reliably crash 1Password, which might be more interesting? Either way something's deffo bogus with the file picker:
- Pick a login item that doesn't have an icon
- Click Edit
- Click the down arrow > Choose new icon
- File picker window pops up (NB: only ICO files have thumbnails for some reason, which was the original point of this thread. The drive where I'm having the original issue and where 1P is installed is formatted NTFS)
- Navigate to a folder that's on a drive that's ReFS formatted (coincidentally, when browsing to an ReFS drive, all thumbnails work on ReFS drives)
- Click cancel (you don't have to pick anything)
Result: 1Password insta-crashes and all related windows disappear, along with the tray icon. When you relaunch 1P, you get this error. I always hit Report.
Expectation: 1Password uses a Windows-native file picker with ReFS support that doesn't crash.
I've tried repairing/resetting the app, issue persists.
