Thanks for your feedback on the search UI in 1Password 8. We actually have an open feature request that relates to your request. Therefore, I have gone ahead and added your feedback to highlight further interest.

I would like to also share a few workarounds in terms of the search feature, that may help you use 1Password 8.

You mentioned

I used to narrow that down by selecting the vault that I knew it would be in. Now I have to type admin then control click, then scroll through a long list clicking on possible candidates and reading what vault and the other details to find the one that I am looking for.

This is still possible in 1Password 8 by selecting the vault you wish to search and pressing Command+F on Mac or Ctrl + F on Windows.
I created 7 Admin password items and want to search for the Admin password in the New Test Vault only. View the example below:

Also when viewing your account on 1Password.com, it's possible to open a single vault, and any search results would be limited to that vault instead of all vaults.
