1password application on windows 10 crashes on startup

I cannot start the desktop application. Task Manager shows "1Password (32-bit) for Windows Desktop" background process for about a second or two, then disappears. I think the problem began after the last update of 1Password, on November 8, 2021. I can't tell the 1Password version because I can't start it.

The browser extension (for Firefox) works fine.

    Meant to add that I don't know why a 32-bit version of the application would be installed or running--this is a 64-bit machine and I have not had any problems previously.
