1Password works inconsistently on the same websites

1Password Inconsistent Behavior - Need Help

Hi! I've been having issues with 1Password for the last 6 months or so. It works inconsistently on some websites, affecting both autofill and manual username/password selection . Interestingly if I copy/paste username/password, the 2FA authentication usually works automaticlly.

The Problem: Sometimes when I click on input fields or the 1Password icon within them, the dropdown with usernames just won't appear. Doesn't matter how many times I click or refresh the page - it's just not happening.

Recent Problem Sites:

  • PayPal
  • 1password.community (ironically, this very site when I was trying to log in)
  • Many more others - but these 2 happened today.

Things I've tried (50-50 success rate):

  • Restarting the 1Password desktop app
  • Turning off uBlock Origin or AdGuard extensions
  • Switching browsers
  • Restarting my laptop

Note: Sometimes 1Password doesn't work even in anonymous mode or with extensions disabled on the same sites, so it's not consistently an extension conflict.

I haven't found a consistent solution or been able to identify what's actually causing this.

My Setup:

  • MacBook Pro M2 with 64GB RAM
  • macOS 15.5
  • Safari / Chrome / Firefox - I use all 3 browsers, but Safari is primary.
  • 1Password for Mac 8.11.2 (81102021) - installed via Homebrew
  • I keep everything updated - install updates every 2 weeks
  • Don't seem to have these problems on my iPhone - but I do most of my browsing on a Desktop.

Anyone else experiencing this or have ideas for a more reliable fix?

I'm sorry that you're running into filling issues on multiple websites. Does the issue primarily occur in Safari? Or does it occur in all of the browsers that you mentioned?

The next time that the issue occurs can you try the following:

    1. Right-click on the tab that you're currently using in the browser.
    2. Click Duplicate

Then try to fill your login in the new tab. Does that work?

Forgot to mention: autofill button in the extension when I click it - also doesn't work, when this happens.
