1PW not filling in passwords / Mac

I always dread getting a new laptop as many things stop working and it takes ages to sort it out, not surprisingly for me though is that 1PW is right at the top of that list and this time has to be an absolute record for the time I've spent even trying to log in here, let alone trying to get 1PW to work!

I am trying to get 1PW to function as expected on a new MacBook M4 Air and have followed ALL of your own guides.  I have installed the browser extension, I've disabled Safari auto-fill (that will soon be reversed given what a dismal failure 1PW has been so far) and the best I have been able to get is the 1PW icon showing up in the log on fields that merely says 'No Items', despite me knowing categorically that there are!  In other sites, forum log ins etc, 1PW doesn't even show up!

This problem has been made far worse by the fact that it has taken me over an hour to even try and log-in to these forums, so much so that I have had to switch to my old laptop to do so as trying to log in with Safari on the new M4 Air I have got the message "An unexpected error occurred, please reload the page" EVERY SINGLE TIME, even before I've hit submit after filling in the credentials either by copy/paste or typing them out!  Sorry, 1PW is good for what exactly?

Honestly I am about at my wits end with 1PW that seems to cost more and more to do less and less and literally EVERYTHING is an uphill struggle that takes me longer to resolve than every other app issue put together.  While I have quite liked using in the past (at least before the terrible UI change) I think it's time to bail on 1PW, cancel the subscription and find something that actually works and that preferably has aa support site that doesn't take me an hour to try and log into when it doesn't!  Definitely don't intend to keep tipping money into 1PW for it not to work!

  • Hello Chevalier! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into issues with 1Password in Safari. I'll reply below:

the best I have been able to get is the 1PW icon showing up in the log on fields that merely says 'No Items', despite me knowing categorically that there are!  In other sites, forum log ins etc, 1PW doesn't even show up!

Can you make sure that the account and vaults that contain your items are added to 1Password for Safari:

    1. Open Safari and unlock 1Password.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings
    3. Click Accounts & vaults
    4. Is the appropriate 1Password account enabled here along with all of your vaults?

If everything is as it should be then do you see the correct items being suggested for the affected websites in Brave? Or does the same issue occur there?

This problem has been made far worse by the fact that it has taken me over an hour to even try and log-in to these forums, so much so that I have had to switch to my old laptop to do so as trying to log in with Safari on the new M4 Air I have got the message "An unexpected error occurred, please reload the page" EVERY SINGLE TIME, even before I've hit submit after filling in the credentials either by copy/paste or typing them out!

I'm sorry that you ran into an error message when trying to sign into the community using Safari. The error message that you're seeing is something that others have reported seeing as well (in other browsers like Chrome) and we've opened a ticket with our platform provider to investigate this further.

For the time being, the error usually goes away after some time for most people. Can you try clearing Safari's history/cache to see if that improves the situation?

Update to this.  I changed browser to Brave on the new Mac and was able to log in to this forum without the EXTREMELY annoying and repeated 'Unexpected Error' message over and over and over and over again using Safari 18.4 (and I've tried both using the log in details saved in the Apple Passwords app, the one that I can get to offer a password, and also manually typing out everything) so maybe the log in woes are a Safari 18.4 bug (odd that I can log on to all the other sites I visited today though) or the 1PW forum site.  Having a support site is great, less so when it takes an hour to log into it!

Next step, try the Keeper app trial!  I think it's time to ditch 1PW.
