Apple Watch unlock is not working in the beta/nightly version of 1Password for Mac
This discussion was created from comments split from: Unable to unlock with Apple Watch.

This is happening to me since the stable version update to 1Password for Mac 8.10.36 (81036049).
I've tried disabling watch unlock in macOS and 1Password, rebooting, then enabling both. Every time I try to unlock 1Password it continually says that my password is required to use Apple Watch for unlocking.
It was working fine before this latest production update.

I am getting a somewhat similar behavior to this for the last few days, when trying to unlock the 1Password app with my Apple Watch. What happens is that 1Password tries to unlock with my Apple Watch, but instead of unlocking, another prompt to unlock using TouchID comes up.
After starting the 1Password app, I first get this prompt:
This makes my watch ask to unlock, and I acknowledge by double-tapping the side button. But instead of unlocking, 1Password gives me another prompt:
At this point it is not going to the watch and I must use Touch ID. Not really a huge inconvenience, but it's weird behavior.
Platform: Macbook Pro 2021
OS: macOS 15.0 Beta (24A5264n) - but it started happening about a week ago when still running macOS 14.x

Hello Mirv! 👋
I'm sorry that you're seeing a double prompt when unlocking 1Password for Mac. If you restart your Mac then do you see the same issue?
If you do then can you tell me how you're opening and unlocking 1Password? Are you opening 1Password from the Dock, from the menu bar icon, or from inside of your browser?
I look forward to hearing from you.

1P_Dave Yes it does seem to happen still after I restart my Mac. I tried restarting a few times, both with "Reopen windows" checked and unchecked, and got slightly different results. Sometimes without Reopen, the Watch unlock didn't happen and TouchID worked the first time. But usually Watch unlock did happen, after which the second prompt for TouchID happened. When restarting with Reopen, 1Password opened by itself. Without Reopen I started 1P from the dock. In both cases double prompt always seems to happen as long as the Watch prompt does its thing first. Also, I tried opening from the menu bar icon, and from Safari's toolbar icon and in all of these cases the double prompt did happen.

Thank you for those details. I've been able to reproduce the issue here on my end and I've filed an internal work item to have our development team investigate further.
For the time being, you can revert back to the stable version of 1Password for Mac in order to use your Apple Watch to unlock 1Password: To stop using the beta

I'm seeing the same issue. I've just stopped using the beta (thanks for the link to those instructions!) and can confirm it is not an issue in the current production release (1Password for Mac 8.10.34 (81034040))

Thank you for reporting the issue, I'm glad that downgrading to the stable version gives you a workaround for now until the issue is resolved in the beta.

Hi, for the past few weeks, unlocking 1Password with my Apple Watch hasn't properly worked. As soon as I double press the side button, another dialogue pops up requiring TouchID as well. If I just use TouchID, instead of double pressing my Apple Watch it works, but I'd prefer to use just my Apple Watch.

I'm sorry that you're unable to unlock the beta version of 1Password for Mac using your Apple Watch. This is a known issue and I've merged your post into the existing thread in the beta category.
Until our developers release a fix in the beta, you can switch the stable version for now: To stop using the beta
