Feature Request: Archiving Vaults - Vault Management

Like many others I use vaults to separate my credentials into different digital environments, such as personal, university, work, client project, etc.

When I finish university, or I complete a project for a client, I no longer need those credentials, thus I no longer need the entire vault. It would be great if there was a way to archive the entire vault in case I needed those credentials in the near future.

The current solutions to this are not ideal. Given that these vaults have a single purpose, if I archived all the items in them, then the vault would be empty, and I can't delete it without deleting all the items that have been archived.

The other option is to have a dedicated "Archive" vault and move everything into there then delete the original vault. That feels redundant given the archive feature that is already built-in, and it also means you can't easily restore all the credentials of a specific vault that you "archived". It also just consolidates the issue but doesn't eliminate it, as all those credentials are still there and show up in searches.

Please consider adding the option to archive vaults, I think many users would find it useful, thanks!

  • Hello ahmadshaqra! 👋

Thank you for the feedback! Have you tried using collections to only show the vaults that you need currently? Collections offer you control over which vaults appear in the 1Password app: Use collections to create custom groups of vaults

When it comes to 1Password in the browser, you can hide no longer vaults there as well:

    1. Open your browser.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
    3. Click Accounts & vaults
    4. Hide the vaults that you don't need right now.

That being said, while it's not currently possible to archive an entire vault in 1Password, I've filed a feature request on your behalf to have our product team look into building such a feature in the future. Thanks for letting us know how we can make 1Password more useful for your needs.
