Hello bsb! 👋
Thank you for the feedback and for using 1Password for so many years. Since you've brought up many different topics, I've split your comment into a new thread so that we don't derail the other one which is focused on just one issue. 🙂
I'm sorry that you're running into issues when using 1Password 8. The team would certainly be interested in working with you to help resolve those issues. I'll respond directly to the issues that you raised below:
The search is now rubbish
Can you tell me a little more about where search is failing for you? If you haven't seen it already, here's a guide on 1Password 8's new search capabilities: Search in the 1Password app to find what you need
I can't sort properly
You can sort items by clicking on the Sort button at the top of an item list. This will give you the option to sort by:
- Title
- Date Created
- Date Modified
- Frequently Used
- Recently Used
As well as:
- Newest First
- Oldest First
Can you tell me more about what kind of sort features you're looking for or what issues you're running into?
dates are formatted wrong
We released better support for date and time localization with version 8.9.12 of 1Password for Mac but the team is aware that there are still issues that need to be resolved further. We have an internal work item open to do this and I've added your comments there.
I can't use the toolbar widget for anything any more and have to use yet another keyboard shortcut (so why even have a toolbar icon?!)
Are you referring to the menu bar icon? If you are then you can change what happens when you click on the menu bar icon by following these steps:
- Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
- Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
- Click on Settings.
- Change "Click the icon to:" to the desired option.
For example, I set the option to "Show Quick Access" so that Quick Access opens when I click the icon: Get to know Quick Access
the password generator is now so hidden that I have to use 3 clicks to get to the point where I can customise the password recipe
The new workflow is designed to help you generate a password and save it all in one shot. Are you trying to generate a password without also saving it in 1Password? Can you tell me more about how you would use a more "standalone" password generator option? I would be happy to pass along your request and specific feedback about your use case to the team.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe this is still not fixed.
I've been a 1Password user for over 15 years. I used to be an indie iOS/mac dev myself, and I always greatly respected the work you did with 1Password. The UI/UX was an inspiration to the whole dev comunity. You had a clear vision of what your users need, and the skill to deliver a product that set the standard for how a password manager should work. I happily paid for each upgrade, and have evangelised to everyone who wants to hear it that 1Password is the most important app on my computer and the best password manager by far.
Something went wrong since version 8, though. I was reluctantly forced to migrate from my much preferred Dropbox sync to your paid subscription model. Having once implemented a complex Dropbox sync algorithm myself, I could just about give you the benefit of the doubt and imagine that this might have been necessary and thus in my, the customers best interest.
But the new UI and UX of the v8 app are just a disaster, measured by the standards you had set with previous versions of 1Password. The search is now rubbish, I can't sort properly, dates are formatted wrong, I can't use the toolbar widget for anything any more and have to use yet another keyboard shortcut (so why even have a toolbar icon?!), the password generator is now so hidden that I have to use 3 clicks to get to the point where I can customise the password recipe (this used to be 1 click iirc) etc etc etc.
All of this is the result, I understand, of you deciding to "simplify" development by using a cross-platform framework instead of the native app that made your reputation. In other words, you prioritised cost saving over customer satisfaction. This is the beginning of the slippery slope towards [profanity removed]. You need to get your priorities straight again, and think about what your customers need, and not how to maximise profit by reducing developer effort. This is a false economy that will come back to bite you in the end.
I really implore you to return to your roots and prioritise building the best tool possible, not the least expensive tool that people will begrudgingly pay for.
