High background usage on iOS 26
Ever since I got my new iPhone 17 I'm seeing daily hours and hours of background activity from 1password, and it seems more people are suffering from the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/1Password/comments/1o6g8fu/high_1password_background_activity_ios_26/
Just yesterday, 1password ran for 7 hours in the background and use 6% of my total battery, with just 1 minute of actual screen time. Today it was 6% on 3 hours of background time, again with no screen time.
I'm using 8.11.14. I have also tried disabling background refresh and the safari extension as some people on Reddit suggested, to no help at all. And no, I'm not setting up 1password anywhere else, this is happening for weeks now.
Is this being investigated by the 1Password team at all? I haven't seen anything. If it continues it will surely encourage me to start the painful migration to somewhere else.
I have tried emailling support but got no answer. On Reddit everyone is lost.
Hello folks,
I wanted to share an update on the current status of the issue. After investigating the problem, and thank you to everyone who provided screenshots and diagnostics reports, our developers have implemented improvements to the idle timer process for the iOS AutoFill extension. We expect these changes will help reduce the battery usage some people have been experiencing, but further investigation will be needed after the improvements are fully rolled out to determine whether any additional work is required.
These improvements are currently being tested in the beta version of 1Password for iOS. I will update this thread once they are included in a future production release.
I am sorry again for the inconvenience, and I truly appreciate your continued patience and understanding.

Despite the update below (and marking this as solved which is absurd), I’m still having the issue:

Marking a post as the solution doesn’t mean the issue or request is resolved or closed. It’s simply a way to highlight the most up-to-date response, by pinning a post to the top of a thread, so anyone who comes across the thread later can quickly find the latest information without reading through everything.
We're currently testing improvements that may help to address this issue in the beta version of 1Password for iOS. Are you using the beta version or the production version? You can check using this guide. If you’re using the production version, we plan to roll out the improvements there as soon as testing in the beta is complete.

Having the same issue. Started at the same time as OP and i'm also using a iPhone 17 Pro Max. Issue disappeared for a month but is back again. On some days its running in the background for 8 hours. Really unhappy as it is draining my battery and also decreasing my battery health (especially because this issue is going on for a very long time)

5 months later and I’m still getting this.

Hi,
I have been experiencing poor battery life on my new iPhone 17 Pro Max. After doing a bit of investigation I can see 1Password is consistently at the top of my apps using the most battery. The most recent time I checked, it used 35% of my total battery charge. I will attach a screenshot below. Please help.
Many thanks.

Hi nebbit32 thanks for reaching out!
We've received some similar reports from other users where they're seeing increased background battery use from the 1Password app on iOS and our Development team is currently investigating the issue. I've gone ahead and added your report to our internal tracker.
Other users experiencing the issue have noticed an improvement by disabling the 1Password for Safari extension. Could you try the following?
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device and navigate to Apps > Safari.
- Select Extensions, and toggle off the 1Password extension.
- Wait a couple of days and see if the battery use decreases. Note that you can still use AutoFill to fill your details in Safari when the extension is off: Use 1Password to save logins and sign in to apps and websites on your iPhone and iPad
Let me know if you have any questions.

Extension already off on my phone.
I just noticed the issue since updating to iOS 26.4.1 a few days ago.Today it says I used 1 password for 2mins on screen, almost 11 hours background (!!!) and used 21% of my battery(!!!!!!!).
how do I add a screenshot?

I only noticed this issue today when I was surprised at how fast my phone was draining. It seems to be happening for at least a week. Daily average for the last week is 10-15% per day with a spike as high as 24%. I also use Arc Search as my browser (uses the Safari web view internally)

Maybe I should also say that 1P also keeps popping hi p a window asking me to sign in. Could this be related?
