How to do advanced searches from the UI (e.g. search in url)

I imported a lot of items via CSV from Bitwarden and am cleaning them up. I have a need to search for items with certain URLs, but finding it difficult (impossible?) to do via the native GUI app. I was able to do what I need using the CLI + a custom jq script, but I was wondering if there are any advanced searching methods that can search specific fields right from the regular UI.

1Password Version: 8.10.32
Extension Version: 2.23.3
OS Version: 14.5
Browser: Chrome

  • Hello luckman212! 👋

Thanks for the question. You can find our guide for search here: Search in the 1Password app to find what you need

If I open the 1Password for Mac app and enter a URL into the search field at the top of the app then I see items with that URL in the search results. Can you tell me a little more about the difficulties that you're running into? Are the URLs in the website address field within a login item? Or are they saved somewhere else in an item?

  • Specifically, I was looking for a way to search for items that have a particular string in their URL. This does not appear to be possible in the GUI. I had to use the CLI + jq to do it.

While the "regular" search DOES match strings in the URL fields, it ALSO matches everything else. So for example, if I want to search for item with a url "apple.com", when I type "apple.com" in the search box, I also get results for items that have apple.com in the Name, the Notes, etc etc. Hope that clears up the question.

Thank you for the clarification. It isn't currently possible to limit search to specific fields and I've filed a feature request to have the product team look into creating a more advanced search in a future version of 1Password. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm glad that you were able to find a workaround for now. 🙂
