How to modify the "automatically selected" User Name field when creating a new form

let's say I want to go into my 1Password app on my Mac.  I open it, and see all the items in the list (3000+ records in 1PW).

I select "NEW" / "LOGIN" .. the form comes up with a pre-populated email address for the expected User name.  Problem is, that is no longer an email address I want to have as the default for when I fill in a form.   And this continues to happen no matter if I change the field value and move it on.

If I go into the field and remove the suggested email address, it looks like it suggests a list of ALL the USER NAMES that I have in my collection of 3000+ items.  I can start to type and the list, obviously, starts to downselect to match the pattern that I'm typing -- and eventually I get to the place where I want to select the desired email for the UN field.

So - the question is - how can I affect the behavior of this default value when I am creating a new instance of a form entry?

  • Hello mcm30114! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! You can choose which email address is selected by configuring your default identity in the app: Choose your default identity and credit card items

Alternatively, you can turn off the prefilling of usernames in the app:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Turn off "Prefill username when creating a new login".

    I hope that helps.
