Expiry date

I had suggested to have an option for expiry date so the app can alert to change the password. This has been implemented and I'm happy. Well the thing is it gives options to alert before a date. If the date of expiry or time to change is known then it's fine like in case of driving license or passport etc. For login passwords it's after a month or 2 or after 90 days or 180 days. So it would be great to have this option updated.

I understand changing password is not a great idea but that is how it has been implemented.

it gave me error while initially replying.

I'm sorry that you saw an error message when posting a reply. Is it possible that you copy and pasted content from another location? It might have included formatting that the community's text editor ran into an issue with.

How did you end up resolving the issue?

What's the update here? This would be really helpful. I fail to understand this that I had given this original suggestion then how did things change?

Thanks for the ping! The expiry alerts feature was built based on feedback from many different customers from the community, social media, and other places. Our team consolidated that feedback from multiple sources and built the feature as it exists today.

My colleague Tommy has filed a feature request on your behalf to add the "x month" option that you'd like to see. While we can't make any promises, our team will consider adding this functionality in the future.

if I decide to change password every month, I can set the next date or also set up a repeat.

I did want to note that regular password changes for no other reason but because an amount of time has passed is no longer recommended as a security practice by many cybersecurity experts and organizations such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Instead we recommend that you change your passwords if one of the following conditions is met:

      1. The password for a website/account is not a secure and unique password generated by 1Password.
      2. 1Password's Watchtower sends you a warning that your password for a website/account has been reused or was found in a data breach.

That being said, your request has been shared with team. We typically don't give updates on feature requests until a feature is ready to be released and then you'll see it noted in our release notes or blog, thanks for understanding.

Thing here is that when we set up a new login password, that’s when you when the next change would be. for example, if I decide to change password every month, I can set the next date or also set up a repeat. This is what the idea was. The other example is that let’s say some site prefer you to change the password after every 90 days and if I set it up, let’s say 11th of April 2025. Then I can just set remind me after 90 days or allow me the option to custom say the number of days, so I can send it to 85 or 87 days. So the thing is, I am I am reminded to change the password in Time, so I don’t have to worry with other issues.
this was the whole idea of me suggesting this option. It doesn’t make sense if I change the password today and then I have to calculate the next number of days when the password needs to be changed and then remind before. It doesn’t work in that manner Every website whoever has a requirement says you need to change after three months, six months or once a year, that’s the situation we are in right now.

so please make the change as early as possible so that this feature really helps the users and it is much more effective to use. This would be absolutely a great feature.

  • My thought process above is you were asking for a dedicated option to pick from. That's what I submitted. I would recommend using the calendar option.

This is not possible in the current implementation. I can and will file a feature request for an enhancement to include that ability.

I’ve been subjecting features but there’re being modified and utility part goes down. I had suggested expiry alert for the dates. It’s always after number of days, months or years from today. Then why has this been done? Where do we get an option to set expiry? Be it any account it’s always from today. Then why was such an alert system created?

       Please think of solutions.

You can set a date by selection the date option from the add more box. You'll need to adjust the date as needed using the calendar icon that is present.

Notice that I changed the date to 2026 that does not affect the reminder to do that the reminder date itself would need to be set. So in the below example you'll use On date...
