I'm sorry that you're seeing an offline message in 1Password when using your VPN. As a first step, make sure that your VPN is allowing all of the following connections that 1Password needs to operate:
If you're using 1Password for work then check with your IT team to see if they're blocked certain connections from VPNs or other sources.Let me know how that goes.

This here is in case someone has the same problem as me, it could simply be because I had changed my email address and the app was expecting me to log in again to validate the change. I realised I had to do so on the phone so maybe that was the problem on the mac? If it was, it was not clear. The phone shoves a login prompt as you open the app with an explanation as to why you have to log back in to the app.
