Limited Functionality with Masked Emails

I was really excited to connect my Fastmail account with 1Password in order to utilize their masked email functionality. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to easily add masked emails to pre-existing logins as well as anywhere other than the pop-up provided (whenever it does decide to show up). In addition to that difficulty, if any additional account is created on a website that already has a saved login (to my knowledge) you do not get the same easy "create a masked email" button as you would if there were no saved logins pre-existing. There is a couple of features that would make this masked email system soooo much easier to use and hopefully this is something that could be easily added in the coming future.

1. The ability in app or browser to create masked email logins

2. The ability to change pre-existing login emails for masked ones when within an account settings page on a website

3. The ability to create multiple masked emails for multiple accounts on the same website

4. The ability to assign these masked emails under more than just 1 domain to allow for better organization (for cases where a person has multiple Fastmail domains)

Now I understand that a lot of these "features" have a manual work-around by going into Fastmail and creating a masked email then adjusting all of the fields 1 by 1 but I was hoping when seeing the advertised feature that it would be more seamlessly connected with one another. With that also being said I have 300 some logins I have just moved over from Lastpass and although I love everything else about the app and how it functions, I am most definitely dreading switching over all of my logins manually 1 by 1.

  • Hello quint01! 👋

Thank you for the feedback! You're right that, at the moment, creating a new Fastmail masked email alias is only supported through 1Password in the browser right on the webpage itself:

If you go through the email change flow for an existing account on a website in your browser, you should see 1Password offer to create a masked email address when you click into the new email address field. Then you can have 1Password update the existing item in your vault for that website with the masked email address that it generates.

Regarding further enhancing the Fastmail integration, especially in the app, with additional functionality, I've filed a feature request with our product team. They'll consider adding these enhancements to 1Password in the future.

And if there is something I am missing here please do let me know! I have just been working away and playing with the masked email feature for the better part of 2 hours and these are the limitations I appear to have been left with.
