Locked out of 1Password

My husband is locked out of his 1Password and the 1Password Community Forum, so I am posting this for him. He has sent an email to 1Password support, but it is Sunday and he has only had automated responses. He is concerned that his 1Password account may have been hacked. What can he do? His email address is [redacted]. Please contact him directly. Thank you.

  • Hello melaniehoffman! 👋

I'm sorry that your husband isn't able to sign into his 1Password account. I've gone ahead and removed his name and email address from your post since this is a public forum.

If your husband has a ticket open with the team then one of my colleagues will send him a reply via email as soon as possible (usually within a few hours). If he's not seeing any email replies from us then please have him check his spam/junk folder.

Since he already has a ticket open with the team, I'll close this thread to avoid having the same conversation in two places at once.

If you forgot your 1Password account password or you can’t unlock the app provides various steps which should be useful in this circumstance. It does not address access to this community, as that is almost completely unrelated to 1Password sites and services.

You don't mention what plan you have. The Families plan provides addition options for recovering accounts.

It might help to elaborate on what "locked out" means in practical terms for the desktop and mobile clients and the web interface., i.e what he did, what happened when he did it, and how that different from what he wanted or expected. You should also mention what steps he has taken to regain access and the results of each step.
The same applies for the Community, but clearly distinguish this.

Since Support are the only ones who can help fix any underlying problem, I trust they will respond soon.

I suggest not concerning yourself yet with speculation about the cause of his access problems. While the compromise of both these accounts is possible and has serious repercussions, worrying about it can distract from the immediate task of recovering access and determining how it was lost.
While our love for 1Password is complete, it should not be exclusive. Exporting your data from 1Password and importing it into another reputable service is straightforward and provides both a backup of the data and an alternative service if needed.
