macOS Password app interferes with passkeys

I've been trying to log in to a few websites using Firefox and Safari with a passkey generated in 1Password8, but the Password app keeps interfering with 1Password, making it impossible to log in. ...

    Thanks for the question! Passkeys are saved in 1Password just like your passwords and other important login credentials, make sure that the built-in Apple Passwords app is turned off on your end: 

    1. Click on the Apple logo in the menu bar in the top right corner of your screen, then click System Settings. 
    2. Click General. 
    3. Click AutoFill & passwords.
    4. Turn off AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys. 


    Then, after you've installed 1Password in your browser, use this guide to save your passkeys in 1Password: Save and sign in with passkeys in your browser

I'm sorry that you're running into issues when saving a passkey in 1Password. On the Mac, you'll need to install the 1Password browser extension in every browser to save and sign in with passkeys rather than choosing 1Password as your password manager in macOS (like you would in iOS). You can download 1Password in the browser here: Get 1Password in the browser

Once 1Password is installed and setup in your browser, use this guide to save your passkey: Save and sign in with passkeys in your browser
