I always believe in software updates. But I seriously regret having moved from ver 7 to ver 8. Ver 8 is a full 2 steps backward missing numerous conveniences and functionality. It's been dumbed down. I just hope that security hasn't also been compromised in favor of supposed 'improvements' that aren't at all apparent. Version 8 is not easy to use at all.

This sounds like a bug: by default the app should come back to the place you left it whenever you reopen it, but in my testing I agree with you that it doesn't work 100% of the time. Would you be willing to give me some examples of where you were when you left off and where the app put you after you unlocked it again? It'd help massively with troubleshooting.
I'd be in a tag and exit and then reopen the app and it opens in Notes
Thank you for your thoughtful response and consideration.
Wonder828 I see 1Password as a productivity app first, having not really questioned its ongoing security since jumping aboard some 14 years ago. But it is a very valid point that if Agilebits can drop the ball so radically with the functionality of 1Password 8 then maybe they could do so with the underlying security too. 1P8 for Mac is NOT ready as is evident from the excuses AB have posted on this forum, we can only hope that 1Password 7 isn't broken by other updates any time soon.
Thank you for taking the time to detail your feedback Wonder828! I'll go through each of these one by one:
Version 7 - wherever you leave the application you return to the same spot. For example if you're in Tag area it would return there. In Ver 8 it reopens to any old place

Version 7 - double click on a login item and bam you go to that site and ID/PW loaded and wait for you to click enter ... in Ver 8 you double click on an item and a meaningless submenu opens totally useless. Instead hunt and peck in the right side listing to find open and fill hidden menu item.
You're right, this was a change we've made in 1Password 8 that removes that feature. For what it's worth, you can get the same result in version 8 by pressing Shift + Cmd + F, but I understand it's not exactly what you expect. I've heard the same feedback from another user in a different threads and I've logged both yours and theirs in our tracker.
Version 7 - want to or need to update a password no problem it offers to update the existing entry - Ver 8 wants to create only a new entry - yes with some confusing clicking you can still update the original entry - but it's clumsy.
This might be a bug as well. To clarify, you're referring to 1Password's browser extension here, correct?
I will track this so the team can look into it—the password update screen should be smart enough to detect that you've already got an account that needs updating.
Version 7 - you could sort items in tags ... Version 8 nada in any regard
If I understand you well, this is actually possible in version 8. You can click on the icon to the top right of the item list to access sorting options, and this is available on almost every list of items.
Please let me know if I didn't understand your feedback correctly!
As long as you have asked let me offer some thoughts and I don't mean this sarcastically - I mean this in a constructive manner. Field test these releases with normal ppl. Non techie users. Ask questions like "is this easier" or "is ease of use the same". My wife as a backup user to pay bills and use 1PW would be totally lost. This is not at all intuitive. I wondered and asked without ever getting an answer on why Ver 7 never offered to update to Ver 8 like previous updates did when they were available. I'm guessing this was the answer - it's not really an update.
Version 8 is indeed a radical departure from our previous version and while we think it's the future of 1Password, we want to make sure people can update at their own pace. This is not to say that in the future we won't offer to assist with the update, but the recently released version 8 is only the first step in this new endeavor.
I fully agree with you that all changes that impact people need to be fully tested and understood before they show up in their apps—we're working very hard to up our game in user testing with folks from as many different backgrounds as possible, and while our apps still have a bunch of rough edges at times, you should see more and more improvements in this regard in the coming months!
If it may somewhat ease your concerns in terms of security, I just want to underline that we've worked very hard to make the app secure and solid from that perspective. We frequently let third-parties audit our code and never take security for granted. I can understand your concern regarding the perceived quality of an interface sometimes broadcasting what might be the state of the underlying code, but I want to assure you that we've put huge amounts of effort into ensuring that we're not lacking on either the security on the UI front. That's not to say the UI doesn't have rough edges, this is a first release of a product that's been rebuilt from the ground up after all. But rest assured that we're working super hard to make things better with every new release.

So there ya go a few thoughts from someone who has used 1PW forever. I'm not quitting 1PW it used to be the gold standard because of security - but I'm less trusting because of so many software interface issues like the few I mentioned and if I hear of a hack or corruption because of sloppy security like there has been with sloppy software design I'll jump off 1PW in a heart beat.
Hi Wonder828, thank you for writing in. I'm sorry to hear you aren't having an experience with 1Password 8 that's up to the level of quality that you expect. We're continuously working on improving the app, and the first public release of 1Password 8 is only the first step in that process. Because of this, I hope future improvements and updates will be able to change your mind.
If you're willing to go into more detail, I'd love to pass your detailed feedback on to the rest of the team. What were the things that caught you by surprise in 1Password 8? What are the features you're missing the most from 1Password 7? What changes are making it difficult to use?
Your feedback would be priceless in helping us make 1Password 8 better.
