New Mac and I'm lost

Dear 1Password Team,

I got a new Mac and I have troubles to get 1Password working on it again (as it was on my old one). So I kindly asking for your helping hands.

I installed 1Password after downloading it from your website (it seems on App Store there is an old version available only).

After that I found on your website how to set up universal autofill. (https://support.1password.com/mac-universal-autofill/#set-up-universal-autofill). So I did what you wrote there.

So and now I want to use 1Password (as it was) on my new Mac with Safari again. But when I try to login on a website, it's not working as I thought. Instead the password manager from Apple is starting. So it seems there is something missing I have to do. Maybe can you give me a hint?

I tried to login with command + Backslash (what's a little bit tricky on a German keyboard), but it hadn't worked. In the past it was possible to login with command + . (the point on the keyboard for German keyboard). Is it possible to use it on the German keyboard again as it was?

Thanks in advance for your support.

  • Hello Philipp! 👋

I'm sorry that you're having trouble getting started on your new Mac. As a first step, make sure that 1Password for Safari is installed: Download 1Password for Safari

Then, follow the steps in this guide to turn off the built-in password manager in Safari: Turn off the built-in password manager in your browser

Finally, you can configure the shortcut for Autofill by following these steps in the desktop app:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac desktop app.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click General, then scroll down and set the AutoFill shortcut to your preferred key combination.

Let me know if you run into any issues.
