Hallo, it looks that an old issue is back: I get an email notifications that a safari extention from a new device logged into 1password, and that happens each time I start up the Safari browser (on iOS and iPadOS)... Since a few weeks ago I am frequently getting incorrect sign-in alerts when opening Safari on my iPhone and iPad. Not sure what is going on or how to get rid of the sign-in alerts.i am running iOS\iPadOS 18.3 beta 1 and 1Password beta 8.10.56. Hi everyone. We've had reports of this happening pretty consistently if you're using the beta of iOS 18.3 or iPadOS 18.3. Something seems to have changed in Safari which is making the 1Password browser extension forget that it's still signed in. It appears that Safari is doing some housekeeping on the local storage that the 1Password browser extension needs. This is essentially the same as deleting your own cookies for a website, and it not remembering you being signed in. When the 1Password browser extension recovers from this, it has no way of knowing that it was signed in before, so has no alternative but to assume this is a new sign-in, which leads to the email you receive. We've been working with Apple about this to see how we can work around those changes, both as feedback for them, and as a mitigation from our side too. That work is in internal testing right now. With it being this time of year, I can't say for sure when it'll be available. This has also affected the beta of macOS 15.3 to some extent, but we're seeing far more reports of it on iOS and iPadOS than macOS. If you're using the beta of iOS or iPadOS 18.3, you may want to temporarily turn off the 1Password browser extension in Safari by going to the Settings app > Apps > Safari > Extensions. This will stop those repeated emails. Autofilling using "🔑 Passwords" on the keyboard will still work as normal.

I currently have two accounts set up (Business and family). Since upgrading to iOS 18.3, I receive an email every time I open Safari for each account saying that I have a new sign in alert. When I go to look at all my trusted devices, it seems to go on forever with Safari. Beginning a few days ago, I started receiving many, many alarming emails from 1Password warning of new sign-ins from Safari. This caused quite a bit of angst, and a bunch of wasted time, including on Christmas when I really didn’t want to be thinking about computer security issues, because I was afraid that 1Password had somehow been compromised. But instead it seems like it’s probably somehow related to Safari on one of my devices, possibly my iPad… it seems like I’m getting these alert emails nearly every time I use it. I am not signing into or using 1Password (to my knowledge) when most of the emails seem to be generated, just using the iPad or Safari is enough. In my list of devices, there are a zillion entries for Safari, with a bunch of different addresses, which is why I was concerned. But I don’t have any reason to think there is anything nefarious going on though I admit that I don’t understand all the entries and differing addresses. It’s also possible the emails are being generated by 1Password on my Mac, but in that case they are happening at times I’m not even using the computer, so that would be even weirder. I know this happened over the holidays, and effects mainly developers or folks on the cutting edge latest iOS beta, but the delay in rectifying this significant bug does not reflect the level of service and quality I have come to expect as a 1Password user and subscriber since 2009.

dteare - is there a timetable for this solution?

Mirv I would agree with it if it wasn't past 3 months since this started to happen AND if there was some official communication showing the "work around" to disable the extension.

I agree that this only happens with some [removed] people that decide to try OS Beta versions, whatever the reason behind they make that choice. Even tough we are paying customers and finding those bugs and reporting them is just another way to pay for it.

HRD yes a timetable and more clear communication is the bare minimum they should provide to it's users.

I switched off extensions, but unfortunately it keeps happening. I suppose it’s the correct behavior if the extensions is off.

I understand I am running beta macOS which honestly may be the issue but this issue is so annoying to me I am considering wiping my MacBook back to public software. Basically the 1password extension for safari will persistently every few min create two new tabs in safari basically doing what it does when you initially install the extension. I will try to get screenshots next time it does this. I already tried uninstalling the add on and reinstalling it. It did not start happening until I updated to 15.3 beta 1 a few days ago unfortunately.

From what you've described, it seems you are running into a recently identified issue that our Development team is actively addressing. This issue specifically affects users on the iOS 18.3 beta and macOS 15.3 beta, where extension storage in Safari 18.3 beta is frequently cleared.

Direct feedback to Apple has been submitted, and our Development team is working on a solution. I've added your case to our internal tracker for this issue. In the meantime, reverting from the beta back to the latest stable public release of macOS/Safari is the recommended workaround.

They are actively testing a version to resolve the issue. Until then I've got it working fine with Chrome and Firefox for Mac and I've updated it on my Mac Mini M4 to download the nightly version of 1PW nightly version for the Mac with high hopes one of those updates will manifest a fix.
