new to 1password. My tablet seems to work differently...

Thank you for the question! 1Password will never automatically fill your login credentials without you first asking it to. This usually means tapping or clicking on the login suggestion that appears on top of your keyboard or underneath the username/password field on the page. 

You can change where login suggestions appear by following these steps: 

1. Open and unlock 1Password.
2. Tap your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings > Autofill.
3. Tap Display Autofill prompts and choose Below the fields they relate to.
   
   

another issue on my tablet: 1pw seems to always require my long password to start up. On my computer I don't have fingerprint log in so I get it. But can't I set it to use my fingerprint like I do with other apps, on my phone and tablet? 

You can enable biometric unlock for 1Password on your Android tablet by following these steps: Use your fingerprint, face, or iris to unlock 1Password on your Android device
