Please help - Migrated to M1 now password not accepted

I've just migrated my macbook pro intel to an M1, that went fairly well, but 1Password is not accepting my existing password. And there is apparently nothing I can do... no topbar menus, no buttons, ...

Update - the password works for the browser version, and also for 1Password 7 (when I reinstalled it). As soon as I upgrade to 1P 8 again, the password is not accepted. Puzzled here...
