prevent e-mail suggestions in Chrome & Safari
In Safari (my main browser) and in Chrome, but not in FF, 1P suggests email-addresses (coming from stored login-id's, I presume) when I'm filling in a simple form (e.g. to subscribe to a newsletter)....

You should be able to hide the inline menu by clicking the 1Password icon on the right-hand end of the form field, as in this example from CNN like you mentioned:
If you find the inline menu is in the way on a form, you can toggle it on and off by clicking there. It's also worth making sure that the built-in password manager in your browser isn't getting in the way of things:
☞ Turn off the built-in password manager in a browser on multiple computers
