Room to improve
I switched to this a couple of days ago, because of all positive reviews I saw. But to be honest, I don't like my experience with 1password so far. The password it generated didn't work for any of...
As you found out you can configure by clicking the icon looking like this (in ascii art):

As for saving, it depends on where/how/when you click save - if you save whatever it prefilled it's obviously the wrong one, maybe try a little more detail on how/where you clicked so they can improve it?
As for this community - there is a lot of feedback on these (new) application, let's wait for one of the mods to pick this one up.
