Secure Notes Markdown links
Hello,
I am trying to get links working in my Secure Note with Markdown.
Normally that works with:
Linking to [Page](Hyperlink)
.
My issue is that the Hyper link is still visible in the Note. The result would look like this:
Linking to Page (Hyperlink)
and not like with any other Markdown:
Linking to Page
.
Due to me using pretty long links it is hard to read the rest.
Would it be possible to add the default Markdown link behavior to Secure Notes?
Or am I missing something?
Tanks a lot!

Hello ogamingSCV! 👋
Thank you for the suggestion. I believe that this is by design due to security reasons. Link formatting of that sort could be used to hide the true destination of a link. For example:
The above link looks like it goes to
1Password.community
but it actually goes to1Password.com
. In a browser you can see the actual destination if you hover over the link but that same functionality does not exist in the 1Password app. That being said, I've passed along your request to the team so that they can see if there is a way to implement links of this sort in a safe manner. Thank you for the feedback!

Hey 1P_Dave,
Tanks for the reply!
That actually makes sense from a security and safety standpoint.
But is that also necessary for a note that I create myself?
In a normal use case it is only meant for me or chosen people I trust with the information. Also thank you for forwarding my request. Maybe there is a way to first show a pop up with the url after clicking the link.
Thanks :)

Those are good points, I've passed them along to the team as well. Thanks again for the feedback!

+1 Rendering links in Markdown is sorely needed. Currently, the whole URL is shown which makes notes unreadable.
As for the "security reasons" argument, 1Password could show the URL on hover just like the browser. This is not a reason to not render links in Markdown.

I'll let the team know you'd like to see links supported in our Markdown formatting.

Hi. As always, thanks for listening 1Password !!
Yes - notes can be a real pain with multi-line links....
I see an opportunity to even automate this...
Generally anything after the '?' is not so meaningful. right?
Look at the Opera browser... There is an option to show Shortened URLs in the addr box.
So, I might see "https://valon.com/login" right now... but when I click in the box, it expands to "https://valon.com/login?continueTo=dashboard"I think 1Password could do exactly the same and make the notes automatically look really great. In other words, don't show all the 'crap' be default... just the meaningful part of the URL.
The 1st click on the url expands it to full length. A second click would than open it...If the note creator wants to use Markdown to perhaps hide the entire mess -- such as [Login](https://valon.com/login\) than it is the same thing.... First click on "Login" reveals the url, second click opens it.
Perhaps a Ctrl-Click bypasses the Reveal step....
oh... and if you really want things to be safe.... render 'odd' characters in RED.... for instance, Unicode versions of the main Latin alphabet....

Thank thomasoatman
I've passed that excellent suggestion to the products team for further consideration. I'm all for the Markdown formatting for the record. I use it so much nowadays it's second nature. :)

Great to hear all these suggestions are being passed on to the right people. One thing I would like to add that could possibly reduce the security risks, is a popup confirming the user wants to open the link. Discord has a similar feature:
When checking "Trust www.youtube.com links from now on", the popup won't show when clicking youtube.com links in the future. This will allow users to make sure they trust the link they clicked, even if they can't see the URL when it's formatted using Markdown. Although I agree with ogamingSCV, I don't think it's necessary for links in notes I create myself. It could be an option in the settings (probably under the Security tab) to ask for confirmation when clicking on links. Another solution is a small tooltip around a link, which only shows when hovering over it.
